Kate Moss' Wedding Dress....

 

 

Fashion icon, Kate Moss, got married over the weekend to The Kill's guitarist, Jamie Hince. It was a 3 day event which included a mini festival, MossStock, with performances from Beth Ditto, Snoop Dog, Shirley Bassey, Iggy Pop and Bryan Ferry. 

I was on tender hooks to find out what Moss would be wearing as her wedding dress and was pleased to find out it was a vintage inspired dress by John Galliano. On first sight I thought it looked a little understated (maybe the Royal Wedding had got to my head a bit too much) but on further inspection I noticed there was beautiful gold detail in the trail and veil which goes perfectly with Moss' bohemian look. Moss also wore Manolo Blahnik heels which had a hidden something blue and her Maid of Honour's dress was designed by Stella McCartney. The groom was also looking fabulous in a custom grey suit by Stefano Pilati for Yves Saint Laurent making Moss and Hince a very good looking newly married couple.

The bridesmaids looked fabulous and carried on the bohemian look especially with their hair accessorised with flower head bands. These are very on trend at the moment and they go well with "MossStock" as I saw these every where at Glastonbury.

One for the men...

I started this post quite a while back and kind of forgot about it. I remembered it again when news broke out about Galliano being fired by Dior. I found the whole fiasco quite disappointing and felt reluctant to post this fabulous menswear collection, but upon looking at it again this morning I can't help but admire his work. Is that bad? I have been quite a fan of Galliano's collections of late, especially his work inspired by René Gruau (see previous post), and then seeing his Menswear Spring 2011 collection made my jaw drop once again. The designer decided to base his collection on Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton. And boy! Didn't he do well? He wanted to make a statement about new proportions in menswear and went for the Little Tramp look of shrunken jackets and baggy trousers. For the Keaton look he used retro-tailored pieces with porkpie hats. Fabulous!

John Galliano gets inspired by René Gruau

John Galliano has designed a beautiful couture collection for Christian Dior. The collection was inspired by René Gruau (1909-2004), who was famously an illustrator for Dior in the forties and fifties and created some of the most iconic fashion images of the 20th century. His illustrations were showcased at Somerset House last December. 

Galliano translated Gruau's illustrations with such ease but stated it was his most technically challenging collection. When I first heard about the collection, I have to admit I was quite skeptical. But he has really pulled it off! The fact that he seems to have captured the strokes and movement of Gruau's drawings is amazing. I am truly impressed and fascinated. I love the fact he used ostrich feathers to depict swirls of ink, embroidery to cause a subtle shadow relief effect and pencil strokes were replaced by sequins. I wish I was there to see the show in the flesh. I'm sure these outfits are even more stunning up close.
